MEET THE CONDUCTOR

Mr. Riad Kudsi is a national of Syria and Czech Republic. He was born in Aleppo Syria in 1950 from a musical family. He started learning violin from his father at the age of eight. In 1967, he graduated from the National Institute of Music with Distinction. In 1970 he was awarded a special scholarship for talented musicians to complete his higher studies in music in Prague which required him to give up his engineering studies in Architecture.

He graduated from the conservatoire in Prague with distinction in 1974 and received yet another scholarship to complete his studies at the Higher Academy in Prague, where he received a Masters of Art degree in 1979. He taught violin in several distinguished institutes for music in Prague, Paris and Syria.

 

Mr. Kudsi has played violin recitals with piano and violin soloist in orchestra in many European and Arabic countries. He has also made several radio and television recordings in Prague and Damascus. He formed the Syrian Trio and Syrian Chamber Orchestra and produced many musical programs for the Syrian Radio and Television.

 

Mr. Kudsi established the Emirates Children’s String Orchestra in early 1993. Later in 2002 and after expanding the number of musicians to over 40 performers, the name was changed to Emirates Youth Symphony Orchestra.
